If your cruise stops in Bonaire and you’re wondering what to do—plan something in the water.

This island is known as one of the top diving and snorkeling destinations in the world, and after visiting, I get why.

We visited Bonaire on Virgin Voyages’ Brilliant Lady—and it was actually their first stop on the island, which made it feel even more special. And partially why the one and only, Richard Branson, was also on our Voyage!

We had originally planned to do a 2-tank dive with VIP Diving, but last-minute, we decided to switch it up and just explore on our own.

Honestly? No regrets.

📍 Bonaire Cruise Port Basics

  • Port: Kralendijk, Bonaire

  • Docked: Yes

  • Walkable: Yes (but you’ll need transportation for beaches)

Bonaire is small, and very laid-back. Typically, there’s only one cruise ship in port per day, so it never feels overly crowded. So you might be wondering, what things to do from the Bonaire Cruise port?

Most of the island’s activity revolves around cruise days, which actually makes it really easy to navigate and explore.

🌊 What Bonaire is Known For

Bonaire is widely considered one of the top diving destinations in the world—and once you see the water, it makes sense.

  • Crystal-clear visibility

  • Healthy coral reefs

  • Tons of marine life

Even just snorkeling, this was some of the clearest water I’ve ever been in.

🐠 What We Did: Easy Beach Day + Snorkeling

Instead of our planned dive, we kept it simple.

Right outside the port, we found a local taxi driver and arranged:

  • $20 to take us to the beach

  • $20 for pickup later in the day

Super easy.

We chose Eden Beach, which turned out to be a great call.

👉 They do have an entry fee, but we happened to arrive with a group and slipped in with them. Don’t worry—we more than made up for it with food and drinks 😅

🏖️ Eden Beach Experience

We ended up spending the entire day here—and it was exactly what we needed.

What we loved:

  • Calm, crystal-clear water

  • Amazing snorkeling right off the beach

  • Tons of fish, coral, and even eels

  • Easy, relaxed vibe

This was easily one of the best snorkeling spots I’ve experienced, especially just walking right in from shore. Check out our video footage and see for yourself!

🍴 Food & Drinks

We kept it casual for lunch:

  • Chicken fingers

  • Turkey club

  • Drinks throughout the day

Nothing fancy—but exactly what you want for a beach day.

💰 Cost Breakdown (for 2 people)

  • Taxi: $40 total roundtrip

  • Beach entry: technically required (we bypassed it, but plan for it)

  • Food & drinks: varies

👉 Overall, this was a very affordable and easy DIY day.

👍 Pros & Cons

Pros:

  • Some of the best snorkeling in the Caribbean

  • Easy to plan on your own

  • Not crowded or overly touristy

  • Relaxed, low-key vibe

Cons:

  • Not a lot to do if you’re not into water activities

  • Limited “luxury beach club” options compared to other islands

🌴 Bonaire Cruise Port: Things to do Next Time

While I loved what we did, I think next time I would:

👉 Book a boat tour👉 Head out to Klein Bonaire (a small nearby island)

I’ve heard the snorkeling there is even better—with rays and even more marine life.

Check out lots of alternative Shore Excursion offerings in Bonaire below:

Another popular option was a golf cart or ATV rental for the day! This allows you to explore on your own things like the salt flats, flamingo sanctuary, historical slave huts, and exploring the southern parts of the island. Pricing was around $100-150 per cart.

💡 Kristin Tip

If you’re stopping in Bonaire—plan something in the water.

This is not the port to just wander around. The real magic here is what’s under the surface.

⏰ Timing Tips

We spent most of the day at the beach and headed back in the afternoon to:

  • Walk around the port area

  • Grab a few souvenirs

  • Get back onboard with plenty of time

Super easy, no stress.

🌎 Final Thoughts

Bonaire is truly a water lover’s paradise.

We also noticed quite a bit of new construction and development, so it’s clear the island is continuing to invest in tourism—while still keeping that relaxed, untouched feel.

Even though we skipped diving this time, snorkeling was more than enough to make this stop memorable.
