AVA Cancun Review: Is This the Best All-Inclusive Resort for Families and Groups?

When a new all-inclusive resort opens in Cancun, it's easy to assume it's just another luxury property competing with the dozens already lining the coast.
AVA Cancun feels different.
After spending several days at the resort, my biggest takeaway wasn't the restaurants, the rooms, or even the massive pool. It was how intentionally the resort seemed designed for groups traveling together.
Whether you're planning a multigenerational family vacation, a destination wedding, a reunion with friends, or a group celebration, AVA Cancun offers something many resorts struggle with: enough space, enough activities, and enough variety to keep everyone happy.
While couples can certainly enjoy AVA, I think its sweet spot is families and groups looking for a lively, activity-filled vacation experience.
Who Should Stay at AVA Cancun?
After our visit, I think AVA Cancun is best suited for:
Families
There are activities for all ages, multiple pools, family-friendly dining options, and enough entertainment to keep kids busy throughout the day.
Multigenerational Groups
This is where AVA really shines. Grandparents can relax, parents can enjoy the pool scene, and kids have access to games, activities, and entertainment.
Destination Weddings & Group Trips
Because every room faces the ocean and the resort is so large, AVA is an excellent option for weddings, reunions, incentive trips, and milestone celebrations.
Friend Groups
The lively atmosphere, large pool complex, and variety of restaurants make it easy for groups to spend time together while still having room to spread out.
What Could Be Better?
No resort is perfect, and AVA Cancun does have a few things prospective guests should know.
Restaurant Reservations Need Improvement
This was our biggest challenge during our stay.
Even as a party of two, securing restaurant reservations after arrival proved difficult. For larger groups, I would strongly recommend making dining reservations as early as possible and working with a travel advisor who can help prepare in advance.
Though if you are "go with the flow" then you can definitely get in late, you'll just have to wait like a traditional restaurant. Put your name on the list and then get a cocktail. 😉
The Beach Isn't the Main Attraction
If you're looking for powder-soft sand and calm turquoise water, AVA may not be your ideal choice.
The beach exists, but the resort clearly knows its strongest asset is the pool experience. That's likely why the property invested in one of the largest and most impressive pool complexes in Cancun.
For us, this wasn't a deal breaker—but it's important to set expectations.
Final Thoughts: Is AVA Cancun Worth It?
After spending time at AVA Cancun, my answer is yes—with the right expectations.
If you're looking for a romantic adults-only escape, there are other resorts in Cancun that I would likely recommend first.
But if you're planning a family vacation, multigenerational trip, destination wedding, reunion, or group getaway, AVA Cancun offers a lot to love.
The highlights for us were:

✔ Private hot tubs on every balcony
✔ One of the largest pool complexes in Cancun
✔ Fun daytime activities and entertainment
✔ Plenty of dining options
✔ Great setup for families and groups
The biggest consideration is making restaurant reservations early and understanding that the pools—not the beach—are the star of the show.
For travelers who want a lively, modern all-inclusive resort where grandparents, parents, kids, couples, and friends can all find something to enjoy, AVA Cancun is absolutely worth considering.
